So dangerous, in fact, that no one is expected to get out alive! But is there really a reason to fear the reaper? This tribe is a forum to discuss the nature of THE EGO... or if it really even exists at all!
Carl Jung first gave a name to this aspect of the human psyche. He said it was an abstraction that wasn't real because it was the result of the unseen "deus ex machina" (individuated consciousness of a human soul) being mistaking itself to be a body!
This false self-perception is the root cause of fear, since if it were, in fact, true that the human being is really only a body, born into the world only to live, suffer, and die, then there would be plenty of reason to panic. But our cosmology allows the spirit of a human to live beyond physical death, suggesting also that it is possible, therefore, that a spirit could reenter the physical realm again and take up life.
The ego can be understood quite accurately as the RESULT of a believing in something that does not exist... an ILLUSION. Illusions, by definition, ARE NOT REAL. The ego is, in truth, nothing more than a fearful thought. But our thoughts and beliefs are precious to us, and they have reality only to the extent that our DESIRE makes them real for us.
How do you overcome the seductive voice of your own ego?
We look at prayer (speaking) and meditation (listening)... both giving and receiving, like a cosmic "transceiver"...
And a concluding thought:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
(God = Universal Mind, the Tao, the Creative Force of the Universe... whatever works for you)
